— Why it matters
The way a child feels about the dentist early on tends to stay with them.

A rushed or stressful first visit can turn into years of avoided appointments; a calm, positive one builds a child who looks after their teeth without a second thought.
That’s the difference we set out to make at every children’s appointment, unhurried time in the chair, plain explanations a child can actually follow, and a practice that feels quiet and familiar rather than clinical and busy.
We care for babies, children and teenagers from across the Hawkesbury, including North Richmond, Richmond, Windsor, Kurrajong and Pitt Town.
— The First Visit
Short, low-pressure, and on your child’s terms.
Australian dental guidance recommends a child’s first dental visit by around their first birthday, or whenever their first tooth appears. In practice, many families come a little later, and that’s fine.
What matters is starting early enough that the dentist becomes normal and unremarkable. You’re welcome to stay alongside your child the entire time.
Settle in
Your child sits with you, looks around, and gets used to the room. No pressure to begin.
A friendly count
We gently count teeth and have a look. If they’re comfortable, we do a quick clean.
A quiet finish
Many young children just need a happy, uneventful visit, and that’s the whole goal.
— Bulk-billed for eligible kids
Up to $1,158 in free dental care under the CDBS.
The Child Dental Benefits Schedule is a Medicare program that helps eligible families with the cost of children’s dental care. The Kurmond Dentist bulk-bills CDBS patients, no out-of-pocket cost for covered treatment.
It covers exams, cleans, x-rays, fissure sealants, fillings, root canal treatment and extractions. It does not cover orthodontics or cosmetic treatment.

— For nervous kids
If the dentist feels scary, we’ll take it one step at a time.
Plenty of children, and plenty of adults, feel uneasy about dental visits. A child who is anxious, or has had a difficult experience somewhere else, is very welcome here.
We move at your child’s pace, explain each step in friendly language before we do it, and never force treatment on a frightened child. Sometimes a first appointment is simply about building trust, that’s a perfectly good outcome.
Let us know when you book that your child is feeling nervous, and we’ll plan the visit accordingly.
