— Why it matters

The way a child feels about the dentist early on tends to stay with them.

Children's Dentistry

A rushed or stressful first visit can turn into years of avoided appointments; a calm, positive one builds a child who looks after their teeth without a second thought.

That’s the difference we set out to make at every children’s appointment, unhurried time in the chair, plain explanations a child can actually follow, and a practice that feels quiet and familiar rather than clinical and busy.

We care for babies, children and teenagers from across the Hawkesbury, including North Richmond, Richmond, Windsor, Kurrajong and Pitt Town.

— What we offer

Everyday dental care for every age and stage.

From their very first tooth through to the teenage years, and a referral to a trusted specialist when something falls outside everyday care.

Check-ups & cleans

Gentle examinations that track healthy development and catch small problems early.

Fluoride treatments

A quick, protective coating that strengthens young enamel against decay.

Fissure sealants

Thin protective seals on back-tooth surfaces, where cavities most often start.

Tooth-coloured fillings

Discreet, natural-looking fillings if a cavity does appear.

Emergency dental care

Prompt attention for knocked, chipped, cracked or aching teeth.

Growth & habit monitoring

An eye on jaw development, adult teeth, thumb-sucking or grinding.

Gentle extractions

Careful removal of stubborn baby teeth or badly decayed teeth when needed.

— The First Visit

Short, low-pressure, and on your child’s terms.

Australian dental guidance recommends a child’s first dental visit by around their first birthday, or whenever their first tooth appears. In practice, many families come a little later, and that’s fine.

What matters is starting early enough that the dentist becomes normal and unremarkable. You’re welcome to stay alongside your child the entire time.

01

Settle in

Your child sits with you, looks around, and gets used to the room. No pressure to begin.

02

A friendly count

We gently count teeth and have a look. If they’re comfortable, we do a quick clean.

03

A quiet finish

Many young children just need a happy, uneventful visit, and that’s the whole goal.

Child Dentist at Kurmond

— For nervous kids

If the dentist feels scary, we’ll take it one step at a time.

Plenty of children, and plenty of adults, feel uneasy about dental visits. A child who is anxious, or has had a difficult experience somewhere else, is very welcome here.

We move at your child’s pace, explain each step in friendly language before we do it, and never force treatment on a frightened child. Sometimes a first appointment is simply about building trust, that’s a perfectly good outcome.

Let us know when you book that your child is feeling nervous, and we’ll plan the visit accordingly.

Australian dental guidance recommends a first dental visit by around 12 months of age, or when the first tooth appears. Early visits are short and gentle, and help your child get comfortable long before any treatment is ever needed.
Most children should have a check-up every six months. Regular visits let the dentist track development, apply preventive treatments such as fluoride and fissure sealants, and catch small issues while they are still easy and inexpensive to fix.
Yes. The Kurmond Dentist bulk-bills eligible children under the CDBS, so there’s no out-of-pocket cost for covered treatment. Eligible children can claim up to $1,158 over two consecutive calendar years. Call us and we can check your child’s eligibility for you.
Yes. Dental X-rays use a very low dose of radiation and are only taken when needed, for example, to check for decay between teeth or to see how adult teeth are developing. Protective measures are used, and the diagnostic benefit far outweighs the very small exposure.
Absolutely. We see nervous children often. Our unhurried approach, plain explanations and willingness to take things one step at a time are designed to build trust. Let us know when booking and we will plan a gentle, pressure-free visit.
Contact us as soon as possible, dental injuries are time-sensitive. If an adult tooth has been knocked out, handle it by the crown (not the root), keep it moist in milk or saliva, and bring it with you. Do not try to reinsert a baby tooth.
